TutorsLit Privacy

Privacy Policy

This Policy describes what TutorsLit collects, what it does not use student data for, how information supports the Services, and the choices available to users, families, and schools.

Effective date: July 29, 2026

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy explains how TutorsLit collects, uses, discloses, stores, and protects information when you use TutorsLit websites, learning tips, lesson plans, applications, accounts, SAT practice materials, diagnostics, interactive HTML labs, LMS embeds, and related services (the “Services”). A school agreement, data-processing agreement, or service-specific notice may provide additional terms. If a signed agreement conflicts with this Policy, the signed agreement controls for that relationship.

2. Privacy Summary

  • TutorsLit collects information needed to operate accounts, deliver educational content, save progress, create reports, secure the Services, answer inquiries, and understand use of the site.
  • TutorsLit does not sell personal information for money and does not use student information obtained through school-directed use for targeted advertising.
  • TutorsLit may use service providers for hosting, security, analytics, video, communications, and AI-assisted features.
  • Users may request access, correction, or deletion by contacting TutorsLit. Some diagnostic data can also be deleted directly within the diagnostic history interface.

3. Information We Collect

Information you provide

Depending on the Service, TutorsLit may collect account and contact information such as name, username, email address, user or school identifier, role, grade level, phone number when provided, organization, login credentials, and communications sent to TutorsLit.

TutorsLit may also collect User Content such as written responses, answers, recordings, files, annotations, comments, feedback, lesson activity, and other material submitted through the Services.

Learning, account, and activity information

For account-based learning services, TutorsLit may record sign-in dates, browser information, lesson access, time on task, video progress, quiz or activity results, writing responses, scores, feedback, annotations, completion status, and other information needed to provide progress and instructional reports.

SAT diagnostic information

The SAT strategy diagnostic may record selected or entered responses, initial and final answers, accuracy, confidence ratings, active time, time to first response, confidence-selection time, review and revisit time, answer changes, flags, eliminated choices, limited interaction-event history, question identifiers, skill and domain labels, diagnostic summaries, recommended labs, and generated reports.

A diagnostic session may be linked to a TutorsLit user ID when the user is logged in. Anonymous diagnostic access uses a long random session token stored in the browser. The server stores only a hash of that token. The diagnostic is not designed to use an IP address as the student’s diagnostic identifier.

Tip, portal, and site analytics

TutorsLit may collect page and interaction information such as the tip or resource opened, event type, page URL, referring URL, search text, curriculum filters, standards filters, visitor and browser-session identifiers, user ID when logged in, IP address and a hashed version of the IP address, user-agent string, device category, browser language, time zone, screen and viewport dimensions, campaign parameters, and access to SAT labs or the diagnostic.

Public marketing pages currently use Google Analytics and Google advertising-measurement tags. Those technologies may collect cookies or similar identifiers, interaction data, approximate location, browser and device information, and other information described in Google’s policies. TutorsLit’s own educational tracking and Google’s tracking are separate systems.

Cookies, browser storage, and similar technologies

TutorsLit uses cookies and browser storage for authentication, session continuity, security, preferences, analytics, anonymous visitor or session identifiers, SAT portal access, diagnostic history, and limited lab progress. Examples include ColdFusion session cookies, a saved username cookie, a persistent SAT visitor identifier, local-storage and session-storage identifiers for learning-tip analytics, diagnostic session history, and locally saved lab collections.

Some browser-stored information remains until it expires or you clear it. Blocking cookies or storage may prevent sign-in, saved progress, diagnostic history, or other features from working correctly.

Embedded labs and LMS information

When a TutorsLit lab is embedded in an LMS or another website, TutorsLit may receive ordinary request information such as the requested page, browser or device information, IP address, and referring page. Certain labs can also send a completion message to the parent frame. Depending on the lab, that message may include the lab and version, practice mode, timestamps, scores, skill or domain breakdowns, attempts, selected or typed responses, correctness, response time, hints, timeouts, and diagnostic tags.

The school, teacher, LMS provider, or website embedding the lab may independently collect that completion message or other information under its own privacy policy. TutorsLit does not control the data practices of an unaffiliated LMS or embedding website.

4. How We Use Information

TutorsLit uses information to:

  • provide, personalize, maintain, and support the Services;
  • authenticate users, manage accounts, save progress, and display history;
  • score or evaluate responses, generate instructional feedback and reports, and recommend relevant content or labs;
  • help educators, schools, parents, or authorized administrators review student activity where the applicable service or agreement permits;
  • measure engagement, improve navigation and content, understand resource use, and evaluate outreach;
  • communicate about accounts, support, requested information, service changes, and security;
  • detect misuse, prevent fraud, enforce terms, troubleshoot, and protect users and systems;
  • comply with law, school agreements, and legal process; and
  • create aggregated or deidentified information that does not reasonably identify an individual.

TutorsLit does not use student information obtained through school-directed use to advertise products to a specific student, build a noneducational profile of a student, or sell the student’s personal information.

5. How We Disclose Information

TutorsLit may disclose information in the following circumstances:

  • Service providers. Vendors that provide hosting, content delivery, database, security, analytics, advertising measurement, video, communications, technical support, or AI processing may process information for TutorsLit under their own terms and contractual obligations.
  • Schools and authorized users. A school, teacher, parent, tutor, organization administrator, or other authorized account user may receive information about users under its authority, consistent with the Service and applicable agreement.
  • At your direction or with consent. Information may be disclosed when a user or authorized adult asks TutorsLit to do so.
  • Legal, safety, and security reasons. TutorsLit may disclose information to comply with law, subpoena, court order, or government request; protect rights and safety; investigate abuse; or secure the Services.
  • Business transactions. Information may be transferred as part of a financing, reorganization, merger, acquisition, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, subject to applicable law and continued protection of student information.
  • Aggregated or deidentified information. TutorsLit may use or disclose information that does not reasonably identify an individual.

Third parties such as Google, YouTube, an LMS provider, or another embedded service may collect information directly when their technology loads or when you interact with it. Their policies govern that independent collection.

6. Student Privacy and Children

TutorsLit recognizes that educational records and student information require special care. For school-directed use, TutorsLit uses student information to provide and support the authorized educational service and follows applicable school agreements. TutorsLit does not sell school-directed student information, use it for behaviorally targeted advertising, or knowingly retain it longer than needed for the educational purpose, contractual requirements, security, or law.

Schools are responsible for determining their legal authority to use the Services, providing required notices, obtaining parent or guardian consent when required, and limiting account access. Where TutorsLit acts as a school service provider, the school may be able to request access, correction, export, or deletion on behalf of students.

The general public Services are not intended for children under 13 to create accounts or submit personal information independently. A child under 13 should use an account-based Service only through an approved school deployment or with verified parent or guardian authorization when required. If you believe TutorsLit collected personal information from a child under 13 without appropriate authorization, contact TutorsLit so the information can be reviewed and, where appropriate, deleted.

7. AI-Assisted Processing

Some TutorsLit features send limited information to an AI service provider to produce feedback, classifications, summaries, or reports. TutorsLit attempts to minimize the information sent for the task.

For the current SAT diagnostic, the server creates calculated summaries before the AI request. The diagnostic AI payload excludes the student’s name and email address and does not include complete passages or full answer choices. It includes calculated performance information and limited question metadata needed to generate the report. The request is configured with provider-side storage disabled for the response where supported, but the provider’s own API terms and security-retention practices still apply.

Do not enter highly sensitive information into an AI-assisted feature unless the Service expressly requests it and TutorsLit or the applicable school has authorized that use.

8. Retention

TutorsLit keeps information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Services, maintain accounts and records, comply with school agreements, resolve disputes, protect security, enforce terms, and meet legal obligations. Retention periods vary by Service and data type.

The current SAT diagnostic configuration allows a diagnostic access token to remain valid for 30 days and schedules the diagnostic session and associated responses and report for deletion after 90 days. A protected scheduled task must run for that deletion to occur. Users can also delete a diagnostic session through the diagnostic interface.

Browser-stored identifiers, tokens, and local progress may remain until they expire or the user clears browser data. Aggregated or deidentified information may be retained longer when it no longer reasonably identifies an individual.

9. Your Choices, Access, Correction, and Deletion

You may contact TutorsLit to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information associated with you. TutorsLit may need to verify identity and authority before acting. A parent or student using TutorsLit through a school should generally begin with the school because the school may control the account or educational record.

You can manage or clear cookies and browser storage through browser settings. You may also use Google’s available privacy controls or analytics opt-out tools. Disabling storage may remove anonymous diagnostic history and saved lab progress.

Some requests may be limited by law, school authority, security needs, contractual obligations, or the need to retain records. TutorsLit will not discriminate against a user for exercising a legally available privacy right.

10. Online Tracking, Do Not Track, and Preference Signals

Browsers may offer “Do Not Track” or universal opt-out preference signals. Because there is not one universally accepted standard for every signal and TutorsLit’s current site code does not change all tracking behavior in response to those signals, the Services do not presently respond uniformly to Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals.

TutorsLit does not sell personal information for money. If TutorsLit becomes legally required to treat a recognized preference signal as an opt-out of a particular sale or sharing activity, TutorsLit will implement and honor that requirement. Third-party analytics or advertising-measurement providers may recognize signals or offer controls under their own policies.

11. Security

TutorsLit uses administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards intended to protect information. No online service can guarantee absolute security. Users and schools should use unique passwords, protect credentials and report links, restrict administrative access, maintain current browsers and systems, and promptly report suspected unauthorized access.

12. United States Processing

TutorsLit is operated in the United States. Information may be processed and stored in the United States or other locations where TutorsLit service providers operate, subject to applicable law and contractual protections.

13. Changes to This Policy

TutorsLit may update this Policy as the Services, vendors, or laws change. The effective date will be updated, and material changes may also be communicated through the Services, by email, or through a school or organization when appropriate. Previous practices remain governed by the policy and agreements applicable when the information was collected, except where law permits or requires otherwise.
